Our Story

How did we get here?  That's a fine question, and one we often ask ourselves!!

Applewood Farm Winery first opened it's doors in Stouffville in September of 2000.   The original winery location was built on the farm that Matt grew up on.  It was there, on his parents farm, that he learned how to grow strawberries, apples and pumpkins.  Matt and I met in high school and we were married in 1998.  The next two years were busy!!!  We built & opened the winery, and became new parents.   Our first daughter was born in 2000,  second daughter in  2002,  our son in 2005 then another daughter in 2007.  It was a crazy run...never a dull moment.  Matt worked at his "real" job during the day while the babies and I attempted to hold down the winery. We did that for a few years until it was time to make a decision. As luck would have it, Matt's position at the MNR came to an end.  Sadly, Ringwood Fish Culture Station closed it's doors and the decision was made for us.  Since then, it has been full steam ahead.  Sometimes things that seem bad are actually blessings in disguise.

Since the start, we have attempted to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere.  We are a casual winery run by a real mom and pop duo. We offer a tasting bar where you can sample award winning wines, ciders and meade. We have added an outdoor patio, where you can purchase wine and cider by the glass.  Our new farm and winery will offer you the same friendly experience, with the same friendly faces, in a fresh new space.

It has been over 22 years since we began this amazing journey.  We started out as two young kids with an idea.  That idea has blossomed in to a reality and has helped us to raise our family of four awesome kids.

Flash forward to 2023... we are definitely no longer kids, but we are still at it, and having fun.  We have added some pet ducks, our dogs Ruby & Mia and two stray cats who found us.

We would love for you to come out and visit us at our new home in beautiful Seagrave, 10 minutes north of Port Perry.   You will likely see us, or one of those awesome kids helping out on the farm or serving at the bar.

What we do:

We have a delicious selection of fruit wines made from the fruit and honey that is harvested right here on our farm, as well as some grown by other local producers. In addition to our wine list, we also have an assortment of Ciders and Meades. You can browse through a collection of jams, jellies, honey and more.

We are happy to create unique gift baskets perfect for any occasion or holiday.  Stop by our patio and sip on something new.

Spring begins with Strawberry and Mulberry picking in mid-June to mid-July. The fall brings pumpkins & squash and farm fun.  During the picking season we offer wagon rides (when possible), a children's playground, giant corn maze and room for the whole family to run.

So whether you are in search of fresh fruit, delicious wines or simply to get out and enjoy what the seasons have to offer, Applewood has something for everyone.

We are a small, family run, family friendly farm & winery.

We welcome you to our new home.  Sorry, no pets.

Come and see what's growing and brewing for yourself.
